Strategic relocation of our filling station to Oevel
Relocating an entire packaged gases filling station is a major and challenging decision. When the permit for our Schoten site expired, we conducted a thorough evaluation and determined that moving the facility to Oevel, home to our specialty gases and electronics plant, was the best solution. This strategic relocation impacts operations and our dedicated Schoten team. To ensure a seamless transition, we established an integration team for operations, supported by sub-teams focused on communication, customer loyalty, and onboarding.
Construction and sustainability upgrades
Construction of the new facility is now well advanced, with major civil engineering works largely completed, including extensive groundwork and the successful pouring of 30,000 m² of concrete using an innovative technique, called slipform paving. In parallel, the office building has undergone significant sustainability upgrades, featuring improved insulation, soundproof windows, and electric heating powered by solar panels. In addition, the entire high-voltage and distribution network has been completely redone to comply with the latest regulations.
State-of-the-art retest center
The first phase of the move involved relocating the Retest Center, delivering operational benefits such as increased flexibility and capacity. By combining new infrastructure with enhanced existing materials, we’ve created a state-of-the-art facility that integrates the latest technologies. The new system automates all steps (blasting, painting, testing and stamping) into one streamlined process, reducing manual work and improving efficiency.
Phased relocation and future plans
Our relocation strategy follows a phased approach, moving each department step by step to maintain operational stability while unlocking the full potential of our advanced facility. By spring 2026, the new packaged gases filling station will be fully operational, enabling us to realize new synergies and strengthen our commitment to customer-focused service.
With this relocation, Oevel becomes home to the largest Nippon Gases plant in Europe.
