The increasing pollution of air and water, water shortages, environmental protection and, above all, sustainable action have been gaining in importance for a long time. These issues now play a central role in our daily lives.
Today, the problem of water pollution is technologically manageable, but often requires the use of complex process engineering. An understanding of the physical, chemical and biological relationships is just as necessary as the appropriate technology.
In recent years, the development of new treatment processes for the use of industrial gases (oxygen, carbon dioxide, ozone) has made it possible to further develop water and wastewater treatment processes that were previously commonplace.
The Mizu® Line: Technology Solutions for Sustainable Water Management
Biological processes for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and aerobic sludge stabilization are based on purification processes that also remove impurities from water in nature, e.g. in rivers or lakes. Microorganisms convert the impurities into new valuable biomass, carbon dioxide and water with the help of oxygen. The introduction of pure oxygen is an essential part of biological wastewater and sludge treatment.
Nippon Gases offers high-performance Mizu LCO® oxygen transfer systems and, together with market partners, supplies innovative Mizu O3® technologies for the generation and application of ozone. These systems are suitable for new plants as well as for the modernization of existing units.
The main advantages of these technologies are:
- Flexibility with variable dirt loads and wastewater volume flows
- Avoidance of secondary emissions (aerosols, VOCs, noise)
- Return of process wastewater to the production process
- Minimization of operating costs
Advantages of Innovative Technologies
Conventional wastewater treatment plants use oxygen from the air by introducing it into the wastewater using surface aerators or as compressed air.
The consequences are: The stripping of microorganisms and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the development of odors and the release of toxic substances.
The Mizu LCO® pure oxygen feed systems from Nippon Gases enable oxygen utilization of more than 90 %. In this way, the unused gas volume flow is drastically reduced. Secondary emissions, which additionally pollute the environment of the wastewater treatment plant, are avoided.
- Reduced space requirement due to more compact design (by more than 50 % with the same degradation capacity)
- High specific oxygen input capacity (up to 5 kg O2/kWh)
- Improved sedimentation behavior of the sludge (up to 2.5 times higher sedimentation speed)
- No noise emissions
