To enable the Additive Manufacturing of highly complex components in a clean environment safely and reliably - with this goal, Mark3D, which specializes in the distribution of Markforged 3D printers, and industrial gases producer Nippon Gases Deutschland are cooperating.
Nippon Gases is currently expanding its offering for the Additive Manufacturing market in Germany and has developed the argon-hydrogen mixture Sanarc H3 for the company's own 3DPro® series. This special gas mixture ensures an optimal furnace atmosphere in the sintering process of the ADAM technology ("Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing") developed by Markforged.
Loss-free sintering
In the ADAM process chain, the atmosphere prevailing during sintering assumes a crucial role in generating dense, high-quality components with high mechanical properties. Without the right process atmosphere in the sintering furnace, oxidation effects are possible. On the one hand, they could cause component discoloration, and on the other hand, they could negatively influence the mechanical properties of a component and thus lead to its loss.
The process gas to be used for sintering depends on the powder material. For high-alloy steels, the use of the argon/hydrogen mixture is recommended; for unalloyed or low-alloy steels, as well as simple tool steels, Nippon Gases advises the use of a high-purity 3DPro® argon.
"That's why we look closely at user requirements," adds Dominic Müller, Marketing Manager Additive Manufacturing at Nippon Gases. "Companies that integrate ADAM technology into their production focus on the trouble-free flow of their manufacturing process. Just like the sintering operation, the supply of gases is also downstream for them. Therefore, we see our role not only in the reliable supply of Mark3D's customers, but beyond that in advising them on the safe handling and successful application of the gases."
