Press Release
Japanese technology and Italian industrial vision for Southern Italy

Nippon Gases inaugurates its new air separation plant in Caserta, a cutting-edge industrial site that marks a strategic milestone in the Group’s growth plan in Italy. Developed with the expertise of its Japanese parent company, Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation, it is the first plant in Italy to use Japanese technology for separating air into its main components - such as oxygen and nitrogen - for industrial gas production.

Since entering the Italian market, Nippon Sanso Group has launched an investment plan exceeding 340 million euros, with around 50 million euros allocated to the Caserta site. Initiated in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, this investment now stands as a tangible sign of confidence in the country’s industrial future.

This project represents the first collaboration between Nippon Gases and Taiyo Nippon Sanso’s Plant Engineering Center in Japan, opening new possibilities for innovation and service in the Italian market. The realisation of this plant was possible thanks to the expertise and dedication of our teams, as well as the trust and support of our valued partners, clients, and local communities. Overcoming technical and operational challenges together, we have set a new standard for quality and reliability”. - said Toshihiko Hamada, President CEO, Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation.

Currently, the plant employs around 10 highly specialised professionals, in line with the site's advanced technological level. Thanks to the increased production capacity of the plant - and therefore to the greater availability of industrial and medical gases for Southern Italy, made possible precisely by technological applications - it is possible to estimate a positive indirect impact on the region through the related supply chain.

This plant stems from a shared vision: to create a facility capable of driving growth and development for the country, with the hope that it becomes a legacy of industrial culture and innovation for future generations. Today, we inaugurate a technologically advanced plant that aims to become a hub of attraction for the region and its people - new opportunities for the community of Caserta, Campania, and all of Southern Italy. We like to think of this plant as a laboratory for the future,”  - said Eduina Marino, President and CEO of Nippon Gases Italia.

Through the Caserta plant, Nippon Gases will produce essential gases for strategic sectors in the country, such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, food, and manufacturing. Advanced automation systems ensure excellent performance in safety and operational efficiency. The plant also features significant storage capacity for nitrogen, argon, and oxygen, ensuring continuity and flexibility in distributing industrial and medical gases in an area that has recently faced supply shortages. All storage operations comply fully with current safety regulations.

A Company with Italian Roots
Nippon Gases currently employs over 820 people in Italy and reported revenues of €550.4 million in FYE2025*. The company traces its origins to Italian entrepreneurship: founded in 1920 by Guglielmo Rivoira in Turin, it has supported the country’s industrial development through key historical phases, including the economic boom of the 1960s. Since 2018, it has been part of Nippon Gases Europe, part of the group Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation, a global leader in industrial gases. At European level, Nippon Gases ranks fourth in the sector, with revenues of approximately 2 billion euros in FYE2025*.

Invisible Gases, Tangible Impact
Nippon Gases produces and distributes various types of gases that, while invisible, play a crucial role in daily life and industrial processes. From technical gases like oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen, to food-grade, pure and specialty gases, refrigerants, and medical gases, and gases for welding and metal cutting, each product is designed to ensure safety, hygiene, efficiency, and sustainability. Industrial gases are vital in areas such as food preservation, electronic chip production, and hospital/home oxygen therapy. The company invests continuously in research and collaborates with institutions and universities to develop new applications and technologies, contributing to quality, productivity, and environmental improvements for its clients.

Sustainability and People at the Core
For Nippon Gases, sustainability means enabling clients to meet environmental standards by offering technological solutions that support decarbonisation and energy efficiency. The company also prioritises people, promoting an inclusive, safe, and stimulating work environment, and investing in training, well-being, and talent development.
