Nippon Gases Norge and SalMar cooperate on efficient utilisation of waste heat

(Malm, 31.08.23) Nippon Gases and SalMar smolt facility in Malm have entered into a circular agreement that utilises the waste heat from Nippon Gases' production of air gases. This sustainable collaboration emphasises both companies' commitment to green initiatives.

The companies are located side by side at Malm industrial estate outside Steinkjer, where Nippon Gases Norway opened its most recent ASU three years ago. SalMar, world's second largest salmon farmer, and Nippon Gases already have a long-term agreement for the direct supply of oxygen to SalMar's new smolt facility.

The collaboration between the companies is now taking a new direction as Nippon Gases has committed to supplying waste heat from its production process to SalMar. The latter will use this to heat its facility.

Lars Borgli, Managing Director of Nippon Gases Norway, commented: "This sustainable agreement with SalMar marks another step forward on the path towards the green shift in Norwegian industry. It clearly demonstrates the potential that arises when multiple players co-locate. By implementing circular solutions, we achieve benefits that favour all parties involved.»

«This partnership between Nippon Gases and SalMar highlights the importance of good collaboration across industries to realise environmental and economic benefits. It represents a constructive step towards a more sustainable and efficient utilisation of resources, while confirming both companies' commitment to a greener future", says Mats Wærøe Langseth, Head of Sustainability at SalMar.
