Nippon Gases Norway invests 400 million NOK in new air gas plant in Hjelmeland.
Major initiative to strengthen supply security and support growth in aquaculture and industry.
Strengthening Aquaculture and Industry in Southwest Norway
The new plant will be Nippon Gases’ fourth air gases production facility in Norway and will contribute to improved supply security, especially for oxygen-dependent industries such as land-based fish farming. “With a central location in an up and coming region, we can deliver industrial gases to our customers quicker and with less environmental impact,” emphasises Lars Borgli, Managing Director of Nippon Gases Norway. “This project is a milestone for both us and the local community.”
The choice of Viganeset as the location is the result of successful collaboration with both Hjelmeland municipality and the local aquaculture operator Årdal Aqua.
Generating Local Growth and Jobs
Nippon Gases has a long industrial history in Norway, dating back to the early 1900s. The investment in Hjelmeland is the largest ever approved in Norway by the Japanese parent company, Nippon Sanso Holdings. “This is an important investment for both Nippon Gases and the region. We estimate that about half of the investment will benefit local contractors during the project phase, and the plant will help create new jobs and growth in the local community,” says Borgli.
The plant is expected to be completed and commence operations in 2027, playing a key role in supporting the green transition and ensuring stable deliveries to both aquaculture and other industries.
Arne Jørmeland and Lars Borgli have signed a long-term agreement
to lease
the site at Viganeset Industrial Park, where Nippon Gases
Norway will build an air gas plant.
Local aquaculture company Årdal Aqua, a customer of Nippon Gases Norway, has been a great supporter
in the choice of location in Ryfylke and the final location in Hjelmeland Municipality.
