What is Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP)?

MAP is the tool that can help you keep food fresher for a longer period of time.

Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) gives food a longer shelf life

When food is packaged in modified air (MAP), the air inside the package is replaced with a specific mixture of gases. This method is primarily used to protect and extend the product's shelf life.

 

The shelf life of perishable products can increase up to 4-5 times using gas compared to products packed in regular air.

Three benefits of using gas for packaging food are improved shelf life, less food waste and more attractive packaging.

Examples of products that are packed in modified atmosphere packaging:

 

  • MEAT - minced meat, cold cuts, bags of meat products such as sausages

  • FISH - fresh fish, fish cakes, prawns not in brine

  • VEGETABLES - salad bags, ready-made salads

  • BAKED GOODS - bread products, half-baked bread, baguettes, rolls

  • OTHER - in the bottleneck of products such as juices, cod liver oil and oils, on top of sour cream, cheese, ready-made cheese slices, grated cheese, cheese equivalents, beer, carbonated mineral water, cider and carbonated water, wine
